This kinda came to Kanthia a while ago, but she didn't know how to write it. Then things kinda happened, and here it is.

The song is You're Not Alone by ATB.

There was a night when he had the dream again.

It was a really old dream, a dream he’d been having since before he was human enough to know the difference between what was real and what was not. He never remembered details, only emotions; a tribute to the way things used to be.

He dreamed of the pink sky and the sweat frozen into spikes on closed fur. He remembered the snow, snow forever and ever swirling and biting and seeking to claim the weak. He felt the hunger. The awful hunger that left him crying for milk, warm whiteness that ran for all the herd but him.

He remembered loneliness. The long, cold nights spent scavenging for whatever nourishment the herd had forgotten to eat; he was half as strong as the other fawns, and lively as the dead they left behind. All he wanted was a mother to nuzzle and drink from and make him feel like he had a purpose other than nothing.

They pushed him away with their cold, brown noses, waiting for him to die.

Zoro woke in the middle of the night to the strangest sound of mewling. He rolled out of his hammock to investigate, and found Chopper caught in the throes of a nightmare.

Something stirred in the pit of his stomach, watching his nakama suffer; before he could finish the thought he picked Chopper up in a gentle fashion he had never thought himself capable of. Chopper was so small, so fragile, so warm. The cries quieted down. As he carried the reindeer back to his hammock, Zoro felt a cold little nose bury into his arm with a sigh of happiness, and he could only smile.

You’re not alone, he thought. Not anymore.
