Word Count: 300
Pairing: Shanks/Ben

Author's Note: This is for my awesome Ben and Shanks lovin' friend,
dethorats. ♥
When the dark eyed gunman first received an offer to join the Akagami Kaizokudan, it was on a winter island, cold and barren, save for a tiny village with little more than a tavern. Shanks had approached him there, brazen and confident as he leaned over Ben's shoulder, full weight flush against his back. "'m lookin' for a coupl'a new crew members, why don'cha show me what you got with that blunderbuss there?" He gestured to the enormous gun Ben had set on the bar, granting him a wide berth from even the bartender.
"Not interested," The older man grunted, his long cigarette bobbing as he spoke. Ben had little desire for piracy - he was a scholar, after all, and only carried the gun for self defense. He shrugged a little, trying to push the pirate away - but Shanks held on, pushing even closer at the other man's refusal. "C'mon, y'know all the book learning can only getcha so far. What 'bout livin' just to live? Seein' the world and havin' a helluva time?" Shanks purred into an ear, his strawhat catching in the gunman's dark hair. "Y'could even be my first mate, if yer skills're up to par."
***
Ben woke suddenly, realizing all too quickly that Shanks had once again pulled the blankets onto his side of the tent, leaving his first mate quite literally out in the cold. With an annoyed grunt, he grabbed his captain's sleeping form closer, pulling the blankets over his shoulders as an arm wrapped around his cold back. He frowned at the splash of red hair tucked under his chin and sighed. Somehow, the crazy bastard convinced him all those years ago that a studious, lawful life wasn't half as fulfilling as this one was. He was right after all.
Friday night I crashed your party
Saturday I said I'm sorry
Sunday came and trashed me out again
I was only having fun
Wasn't hurting anyone
And we all enjoyed the weekend for a change
I've been stranded in the combat zone
I walked through Bedford Stuy alone
Even rode my motorcycle in the rain
And you told me not to drive
But I made it home alive
So you said that only proves that I'm insane
You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just might be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right
Remember how I found you there
Alone in your electric chair
I told you dirty jokes until you smiled
You were lonely for a man
I said take me as I am
'Cause you might enjoy some madness for awhile
Now think of all the years you tried to
Find someone to satisfy you
I might be as crazy as you say
If I'm crazy then it's true
That it's all because of you
And you wouldn't want me any other way
You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
It's too late to fight
It's too late to change me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right
You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just might be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right
