Summary: They have a strange way of expressing their affection.
Notes: Um. Yeah. So, the song? "Black and Blue", by a group named Haywire. Yes, I do have old and obscure music. Any mistakes in the lyrics are my fault, but it's the chorus you want, anyway. And there's a story's worth of inspiration in this song, which, well. Some other time and place.

The others worried about him. Couldn't understand.
He wasn't sure why, exactly. It was simple, really. He wasn't an easy person to love, himself. He hadn't been named a demon without reason. So why the fuck would they expect him to find... to fall for someone who was easy to love? Of course he wouldn't. He wasn't a kinder, gentler sort of guy. Not really. Only where children were involved, or... No, that was it. So it didn't surprise him, when he found the relationship he did.
And he was man enough to admit that he was always the first one to rush in where pain was sure to follow. But that wasn't the reason he wasn't satisfied with a declaration of love unless it left him black and blue.
When Sanji kicked him... Sanji's feet could crush concrete, break down walls, and burn with the heat of the devil himself... When Sanji kicked him, it was with enough force to leave a bruise. And no more. It was a fine line. Zoro didn't bruise easily. Sanji walked that line with more skill than any acrobat.
It wasn't exactly a hickey. But it was a love mark just the same.
