It's said that music soothes the savage beast. The soft notes are supposed to transcend the wild mind, causing it to calm.
Nearly every night, Sanji was the last in the men's quarters. He would stay up late, organizing and cleaning the kitchen for the next day. When he came down, he would undress in the dark of the large room, softly singing a lullaby he must have learned in childhood. Zoro sound found that he couldn't fall asleep without hearing the half whispered-half hummed tune.
He would lie, his body tense, sometimes for hours, waiting. From the first notes, his body would relax, muscles loosening. His eyes would weigh heavily and he would start to drift into sleep. However, his eyes would snap open when the song stopped and the lithe warm body slipped next to him. He would bring his arm over that body, pulling it closer, enjoying the hum of sleepy contentment that was the most lyrical music to his ears.
Later, they would wake up before everyone else because the prince just had to make breakfast before everyone got up. He would go into the galley, softly humming again. As the bacon fried, he allowed the snapping grease to cover his voice and he would begin to sing. He would sing old songs, new tunes, bar limericks, whatever hit his fancy . Sometimes Zoro would join in, his deeper voice creating a sweet counter to Sanji's lighter tones. They always stopped before anyone else came out because the time of musical notes and calming peace belonged to them alone.
