Sleep, my child...
Oct. 18th, 2006 09:14 pmTitle: ...and Peace Attend Thee
Topic:No, Chopper wins! Music
Word Count: 300
Rating: ooh, there's a lone cuss word; Teen?
Pairing: nope, although you can probably see some if you're so inclined
Disclaimer: Characters and setting? Not mine. Probably just as well. Here, have them back...
Summary: Naptime for one of the Strawhats. Secrets... aren't, quite.
Excuse: None. This is like, the third attempt at this topic, and it wanted to be a drabble and a half. Pretty bad for a musician. Bonus points for picking out the song in the title.
~~~
Flap and crack of sails. Whip of wind in the rigging, the odd hum of a line pulled taut. Rolling thump of the keel on the waves. Seabirds squawking of land not to far away. Laughter -- Robin's feminine giggles, Nami's louder guffaws, Luffy's ringing shrieks -- from the mikan grove. The lilting rise and fall of Usopp's voice.
High steady whistle of the kettle, clang and chime of pots and potlids and metal or wooden spoons. Repetitive whisk whisk whisk kerrrr-chump! of the knife, then fssssssh-whup of food sliding into the pot. Muffled tap of Sanji's feet as he danced to the rhythm of his knife, slow scuffing drag of a shoe as he threw in a shuffle to the swing-beat skip of the recipe that sang in his mind as he worked. He never danced -- just danced -- except when he was alone in his kitchen. Brief note of water in the pipes. Snap of a towel being unfolded.
Slow thmp, k-thmp, thmp, k-thmp of a resting heart under his hand and the steady sigh of a sleeper's even breathing. He'd been singing; soft lullabies that he'd never confess to knowing, a secret the doctor would never tell. After a wakeful night, Chopper was finally sleeping, so he'd stopped.
Steady tap of shoes on wood, skip-jog, skip-jog, skip-jog down the steps and tap tap tap drag-chnk. Whshh of fabric scrunching, thunk of a mug and cli-clink of a cup and saucer beside his hand.
"He asleep?"
"Aa."
"'Bout time."
Kch-lunk kch-lunk kch-lunk sch-bam of Sanji's descent. "Here."
Sleepy grumble as Chopper was shifted in Zoro's arms, passed easily down to waiting hands. Rustle of blankets, soft murmurs, quiet steps climbing back up.
"So. You don't sing, huh?"
"Shut the fuck up. You don't dance, either."
Ah, silence.
*blushes* Uh, hee...
And, um, yeah, about that... Word didn't want to let *me* write them either... Something about spelling, and grammar, and fragments. But I prevailed! Yes!
Date: 2006-10-19 07:37 am (UTC)With Zoro sort of drowsing on the deck that's the kind of thing that happens too, you start imposing rhythm on sounds you usually wouldn't recognize as such. Much love for this, as well as Zoro singing and his come-back to Sanji pointing it out. ♥
...my sentence structure has FALLEN APART ENTIRELY. But I trust you gathered what I meant.
*nodnodnod* Well, hey, you don't tell and I won't tell, yes? That's, like, just keeping them even, isn't it? :)
...my sentence structure has FALLEN APART ENTIRELY.
And I can talk? Do you see any sentences in that thing? Well, maybe a few...
