Disclaimer: So not mine.
There’s a sense that they share, regarding each other.
It’s the sound of smoke on the wind, soft and sibilant, a whisper too faint to be real.
It’s the taste of a voice crying out, spicy and sour, an aftertaste too harsh to forget.
It’s the smell of tears not shed, saline and stinging, a perfume too hazy to remember.
It’s the touch of spirit, smooth and sleek, a feeling too weak to hold on to.
It’s the sight of snapping, silent and sharp, a man too strong to let go.
They don’t need to open their eyes to know where they stand. They don’t need to feel the other’s hand in his, or smell sweat and smoke, or taste salt and ash on skin, or hear each other’s heartbeats and breath.
They just know.
