“Let’s pretend,” said Yasopp, silent as the gates of Elbaph. “Just one last time.”

Usopp remembered the wind. It was the same wind that blew through the blasted plains that long night he threw forward the Impact and fought two sides of himself- in the memory of Home, and for the future with his Captain.

“Let’s pretend you’re back with Merry.” He didn’t like where his father was going. He didn’t like the way the gates loomed over him; finality so great, it could kill you if you weren’t careful.

The gates of Elbaph groaned. The memory of Justice and the gates that none can return from hit him like the stars at night, and he supposed that once you entered the realm of the giants you never left alive. Perhaps bravery could never be found until the day you died-

“Go on,” said his father. “Go on in. I have to get back to Shanks, but at least you have nothing to go home to.” Yasopp paused, perhaps wondering what was left of his son. “…Go on.”

Someone, far away, was silently weeping.

“But still- just pretend for a moment that they never tried to stop you, and you never killed them when they got in your way.”

He awoke without a sound, a scream lodged in his throat and his mask decidedly shattered.
