Summary: Zoro contemplates his own meaning of peace on his birthday. Made in honour of Zoro's birthday.
A/N: Originally it was longer and I am still not sure if this version works. If you want to check out the original it's at

The wind blew in the distant sea, filling the sails with their gust, while a lone figure stands against the railing; silent as the impending breeze. The man contemplates, on this day; the anniversary of his birth in the world, for what does it all amount up to? Another year older? Will this new age bring him steps closer to his goal? To his peace; one year less he needs to achieve his goals, one year less to complete them. Is it peace he wants; the end to his dreams, goals, and aspirations.
“Oi, marimo head, what are you thinking about?”, interrupted the blond, who joined the other by the railing. “Don't think too much, it's your birthday; you should be celebrating.”
The swordsman turned to the blond and questioned, “Peace, does it mean the end?”
“I don't know, depends what you think the end means.”, he turned away from the swordsman and wandered away towards a potted plant that was placed against the galley wall. The blond plucked a long flower stem from the plant and walked back to the railing.
“Here,” said the blond, handing the flower to the perplexed man, “It's a poppy, for your birthday.”
The other twirled the poppy around, examining it with his gaze, “I'm not a girl.” Was all he could say.
“I know that better then anyone,” mumbled the fairer man. “Listen; because you find peace, or will find peace in your life one day; it doesn't always mean the end...”
The swordsman listened to his words as the chef stepped closer to the darker man before him and wrapped his arms around the others' neck. The blond gave the man a small, chaste kiss on the side of his lips and whispered in his ear, “...sometimes peace can be the beginning of something beautiful.”
A/N: If anyone is curious as to why I choose to use the poppy in this, it's because Zoro's birthday coincides with Remembrance Day; which takes place on Nov. 11 and a poppy symbolizes the day. Usually people around or on this day wear fake poppy pins in remembrance of the veterans who fought for peace during the World Wars. I am just explaining it in case someone didn't understand the symbolism behind it.

Date: 2006-11-11 08:02 am (UTC)I doubt in Zoro's stoic like nature he would bother really, unless everyone bothered for him first.
I forgot what episode, but I do know that it was during the 'Memory Loss' arc/filler episodes. It was after they regained all there memories back; just before Sanji commented to Zoro on how he didn't know Zoro got his memory back and said (while contorting Zoro's face to make a smile), 'That he should be happy, and smile and not look scary (I think?).'
The reason why is because when Zoro lost his memory he had a fight with Luffy, then after went back to the rest of the group and Sanji, seeing Zoro still with katana's in hand thought his memory had not recovered; then tried to fight him. He found out that Zoro was alright, then Luffy came and slingshot himself, Sanji and Zoro into a rock; then what I said above happened.
That's about as much as I can remember.
