It was a small ship, he shouldn't be so...
Dec. 1st, 2006 04:28 pmTitle: So Far Away
Topic:bad company
Word Count: 300
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Sanji -> Zoro
Disclaimer: Characters and setting? Not mine. Probably just as well. Here, have them back...
Summary: Zoro had zoned out on him. Again. It made Sanji wonder...
Excuse: This is not the drabble you are looking for. Not only is it not sticking to the inspiration song I picked, it couldn't even stay with the same artist. *grumble*
Notes: I'm doing that flip-side series thing again. Someone swat me now. ;) This one goes with "Can't We Just".
~~~
Where did he go, Sanji wondered, when his eyes turned distant like that and his face took on that misted-over, ephemeral not-quite-glow? What, or whom, did the swordsman think of in those moments?
Whom, he thought. It looked like a 'whom' sort of expression. Wistfulness, longing, sorrow - those could be a place. The hopelessness, though, that was a person. Someone he wanted, and couldn't have.
It wasn't the ladies aboard the ship, that much was for certain. The vaguely disgusted snort, the mumbled "just nakama" was proof enough. It wasn't self-disgust. He'd seen that lip curl too often under Nami-san's attentions.
It wasn't the girl attached to the white sword, either. Kui-something? His hands had stayed where they were, hadn't moved to touch the hilt or grasp the scabbard. He did that a lot, sure, but there was a way that his hands moved, even in his sleep, when he thought of that girl. Sanji snorted as he stepped back into the galley. At first he'd thought the stroking motion Zoro used at those times had been a reflection of something else entirely, and had wondered, for some time, if the "girl" had been a boy instead, but no. Zoro always referred to the sword's ghost in the feminine. And it was definitely the sword that his hands caressed in his dreams; he did it awake as well, although not as often, and only when deep in thought.
But Sanji didn't know of any other girls it could be. Or boys, for that matter. Zoro didn't look at *anyone* the way he gazed at Sanji's knees in those rare moments when he zoned out in the middle of one of their verbal battles.
Pity, really. If he knew who he was in competition with, he might have more luck.
Date: 2006-12-02 02:58 am (UTC)You must realize that to round this one out properly we need more. At the very least either Sanji's POV as Zoro wraps around his legs or Zoro POV when Sanji does something about it later.
...feel free to put as much extra stuff in there as you want. ^_____^ Nevertheless, I want conclusion! They're so damn close to a... maybe not a happy ending, but at least a happy beginning! I LOVE THE MOMENT OF 'HE LIKES ME' REALIZATION! I MUST HAVES IT!
Date: 2006-12-02 03:02 am (UTC)...I STILL WANT YOU TO CONTINUE BUT RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS LESS LIKELY NOW THAT THERE HASN'T ACTUALLY BEEN ANY OUTWARD INDICATION OF LIKING.
I'D STILL LIKE TO SEE MORE, HOWEVER.
Date: 2006-12-02 02:41 pm (UTC)And, yeah. I like that happy moment of realization, too. I'm not really into a whole lot of unresolved angst; this is my escapism here and I *like* my fairy-tale happily-ever-after endings...
