Word Count: 290.
Rating: PG-13.
Pairing: Hypothetical Strawhats/nubile young virgin islanders of both sexes, but actually none. FAIL.
Topic: Showers, by the loosest possible connection.
Notes: I kind of followed the same track as orange_smaug, except I stopped earlier. Showers ~> April showers ~> Mayflowers ~> the Mayflower. All due apologies to Mr. Izzard.


And so it came to pass that the Nami’s log pose had a choice.

It could point to Comissatio Island, where every third day was a holy day celebrated by the consumption of incredible quantities of alcohol, with the man or woman who outdrank everyone being declared ruler until the next holy day.

It could point to Aphrodite Island, where travelers were greeted by hoards of nubile young virgins of both sexes to ravish, as it was considered immensely lucky to lose one’s virginity to a foreigner.

Or it could point to Podunk Island, which was so small and minded its own business so well that the World Government hadn’t even bothered to “impart the benefits of membership” to the local leaders. It didn’t even appear on most maps.

Because either of the first two brought up the possibility of Sanji getting laid, the log pose sensibly pointed towards the third.

They were three days into a four-day wait for the log pose to reset (at about the point where the Strawhats were getting bored) when the other ship showed up.

“We’re claiming this land in the name of the Great Nation of Pearl Island!” The man’s armor was very shiny.

“But we LIVE here!” The chief muckaluck’s face was very unhappy.

“Pffft. You don’t even have a flag. No flag, no country.”

Luffy looked thoughtful. “We have a flag.” He pointed at the proudly flapping Strawhat Jolly Roger.

Nami cradled her head in her hands, and the log pose thought, Uh oh.

And so it came to pass that the Strawhats sailed away from the newly established nation of Luffydonia Island, and Nami’s log pose decided that next time it was just pointing at the orgy instead.

The translations I have for the earlier volumes of OP (up through about halfway through Alabasta) referred to it as a "lock post," so it's force of habit--it's always made more sense to me than "log pose" anyway. Then again, these translations also called Raftel "Rough Tale" and Vivi "BeBe," and occasionally tossed in a "Rufi" or two just for kicks. XD

Huh. I always thought 'log pose' made the most sense. After all, a ship's diary, where everywhere it's been gets recorded, is called a log, and 'to pose' means to hold still in a certain place.

For me, it made sense as "lock"--to hold in one place--and "post"--either referring to the needle itself or to the object it's mounted on. "Post," in the nautical sense, can also mean to officially declare a ship lost or missing at sea. >>; Then again, as admitted, my early scanslations were a bit wonky and had a lot of alternate spelling. You ought to see what they did with Bon Clay's name. XD

WHAHAHAHHA! Pooooor Sanji, but at least he never knew about it. Much love for the log pose thinking uh oh. I love antropomorphic objects, especially when they try to meddle with a crew that will cause some sort of dearth or disaster anywhere, even in the middle of a desert.

(Lock post actually makes more sense than log pose, which is the translation I've always seen. Even Viz used Log pose, but they also turned Zoro into Zolo and thus deserve to be burned in effegy on every street corner on the first Sunday of every month. Zolo. Really.)

Viz changed Zoro's name after 4Kids did. In the first few printings, they did have his name as Zoro. As for 'lock post', I can understand the lock part - locking on and all of that - but post just brings fences and mail to mind for me while posing means holding a position. And a ship's diary is a log.

XD I can totally see a One Piece villian saying: "those are the rules... that I just made up" then posing proudly. Nearly any One Piece villian (...maybe not Croc, he'd smirk).

Awesome idea, with many brilliant little details. I also appreciated that the nubile young virgins were going to be both sexes, that right there could produce all kinds of crack and/or identity crises. Poor Sanji, I wonder if he felt a little twinge.
