Title: Greatest
Word Count: 285.
Rating: PG.
Pairing: Johnny/Yosaku, faint Johnny/Yosaku/Zoro.
Topic: Issues.
He had a long, thin scar bisecting the tattoo on his cheek, but otherwise, Johnny looked much the same. Same sunglasses, same vile taste in clothing, same big, dopey grin. If you focused hard enough on that grin, you could almost ignore the space next to him where a person used to be.
“Johnny.”
“Aniki. I told you at the—last time that if you came to visit again, we were going to have issues.” Johnny’s smile never wavered, even as his hands crept towards the twin blades he now carried.
Zoro missed Yosaku then, sharp and sudden as if the funeral had been yesterday instead of a year ago. Yosaku had been Johnny’s common sense, the one who punched him in the head when he was about to do something even Zoro considered to be foolhardy and rash.
Like attacking the greatest swordsman in the world for his bounty, for instance.
“I can’t just let you go, Aniki. I promised him I’d be the greatest bounty hunter, and you’ve got a price on your head.”
“He wouldn’t have wanted this.”
“I know. But I have to keep my promise. It and his sword are all I have left of him.” Johnny’s voice shook, but his hands were steady as he drew his blades.
Zoro tasted irony and blood and tears thick in his mouth as he drew his own swords, slipped his white katana between his teeth. A promise and a blade had forged him, and a promise and a blade might unmake him.
For her, he could not lose.
For him, Johnny could not lose.
As their blades collided, Zoro wondered if Mihawk had had someone for whom he could not lose, too.

Date: 2007-03-14 02:45 am (UTC)I WOULD'VE FORGIVEN YOU FOR THE CRACK HAD YOU BUT ASKED! No need to suck the happy hilarity from our hearts all rough-like. The beautiful chocolate that had covered my Usopp-like heart is now being... tongued off... by... a cat-like Sanji tongue? That was supposed to sound painful, yet still sounds more good than bad. Perhaps that makes it the best metaphor possible for this.
...ignore my incoherant rambling.
This was painful, but seeing Johnny and Yosaku(;_;) was still good and their serious side is not covered enough (or any side really).

Date: 2007-03-14 05:10 pm (UTC)It's funny, today I finally got around to actually buying (as opposed to reading online '~') vol 5 of the manga, and I was just reading the bit where Johnny thinks Yosaku is dying and thinking how sad if would be if one of them DID die... and you've confirmed it ;___;
