The door to his cabin whipped open, rattling loudly against the wall and waking him from his catnap. He blinked sleepily as his first mate eyed him from the entryway.
“I’ve been looking for you.”
“I was just takin’ a quick nap.”
“I can see that.”
A rare grin crossed his face, and Ben covered the floor in two quick strides, leaning over him and invading his personal space.
“Everyone’s busy at the festival. Nobody else is on board.”
“Mmmhmm…,” Shanks agreed, looking up into dark eyes.
They had a rare gleam, a glint of dark mischief, and Shanks smirked. That look wasn’t unfamiliar to him, and the next hour or so promised to be fun. Ben sat down on the bed next to him, one hand reaching over to pluck at his shirt buttons.
“You’re wearing entirely too many clothes.”
He swiftly rid Shanks of his shirt, throwing it over his shoulder in the direction of the laundry corner as he moved in to suck on the offered neck. His own shirt and Shanks’ pants quickly followed. His pants were a bit more complicated to remove, due to his boots, and he struggled out of his footwear. The first one hit the wall and then the floor with the thud of leather on wood, but the second boot elicited a loud yowling as it landed in the middle of the laundry. Shanks was instantly out of his arms, digging through the discarded clothing for the still-protesting bundle of orange fur.
“You hit Jameson.”
He looked at Ben accusingly, the half-grown kitten glaring from his arm.
“How was I to know she slept in your laundry?”
“Doesn’t matter. Now she’s hurt and mad and I gotta calm her down.”
A bit later, a frustrated Ben quietly closed the door. It took a lot of petting to soothe the captain and his cat.
A/N: I had to use the cat again. Jameson just makes such a great prop!
