Title: Avian Interruption

Author's Note: Don't ask me why, but I've got it in my head that Hattori isn't terribly fond of Kaku. He sees him as competition, or something.

Both of the room’s occupants were partially unclothed and fully entangled when a tapping at the window alerted Kaku to the fact that the evening would not be progressing as planned. He groaned in protest and frustration as Lucci unceremoniously pulled away from the wall he had Kaku pinned against and headed for the window.

 

“Forget it,” Kaku said, latching onto Lucci’s arm and attempting to reel him back. “You can let him in after.”

 

“This is the time I always let him in,” Lucci reminded, wrenching his arm away and crossing the room.

 

Kaku slumped against the wall in defeat. “He’s just going to hop around on my back. I hate that.”

 

“Your back?” Lucci said mildly, with a smirk that Kaku could practically hear.

 

“Yes, mine. It is my turn, you know.”

 

“Is it?” Lucci asked. He tapped a finger against the glass in response to Hattori’s pecking.

 

“It is. Although…” Kaku sighed. Last ditch effort. “I suppose I could make an exception if you leave the pigeon outside.”

 

Lucci considered this for exactly one third of a second, and then opened the window. Kaku made and exasperated noise; Hattori hopped onto Lucci’s offered hand.

 

“You like that bird more than you like me,” Kaku accused, kicking off his remaining shoe.

 

“Of course I do,” was Lucci’s casual reply. Kaku sneered and crossed the room, delivering a sound bite to the side of Lucci’s neck and glaring at Hattori, who was perched on his master’s other shoulder.

 

“He may like you better,” he said to the pigeon, who stared at him levelly with beady red eyes, “but I’m still bigger than you.”

 

Lucci stroked Hattori’s wing and told him, conspiratorially, “He says it to combat the feelings of inadequacy.”

 

Kaku made sure the next bite left a mark.

Poor Kaku. Sleeping with Lucci probably gives him a bad enough headache. Sleeping with Lucci while he talks to his pigeon...wow, that would be enough to drive anyone insane.

Good job -- this was a really fun read.

I think Lucci probably just looks for ways to subtly push Kaku toward the brink of madness. He has to do something for fun when he's not killing people.

I suppose baiting Paulie and practicing his ventriloquism would get old after the first year or so.

D'you think Lucci anticipated having to talk through a bird for FIVE years? 'Cause that'd be enough to drive him even more nuts. Maybe he's just trying to bring Kaku with him, eh?

I think he was prepared for that contingency. At least he had the other CP9 folks to talk to...
