Let's play a game?
Jul. 11th, 2007 11:00 amTitle: Broken Phonesnail
Topic: "den den mushi"
Word Count: 250
Rating: PG
Pairing: Sanji/Zoro? Or maybe not...
Disclaimer: Characters and setting? Not mine. Probably just as well. Here, have them back...
Summary: He should have expected something like this, really.
Excuse: :)
Notes: Probably not really related to my Drinking Games arc... ;) If anyone doesn't recognize the game "Broken Telephone", apparently it's also known in some places as "Chinese Whispers". And if that isn't enough, the game goes like this: Everyone sits in a circle, and the beginning player whispers a message in the next person's ear, who passes along what they heard to the next person, until the last person gets to say the message aloud, to be compared with the original. It's usually good for at least a few laughs!

He hadn't meant for it to turn into a game, honestly. It's just, when you're trying to pass word of impending food around, and you actually want there to be some left by the time that word gets to its intended recipient, you really have to make sure Luffy doesn't hear about it first.
Which is why, when the answer to Nami's enquiry over tomorrow night's dinner turned out to be "yes, there were sweet potatoes, so probably candied yams," he didn't just holler across the deck. And since he couldn't go right at that moment either, he told Usopp, and told him to pass the message along, and for shit's sake not to let Luffy hear.
What happened next was probably rather predictable. One Strawhat approached another, whispered furiously for a moment in the other's ear, and then returned to their previous activity, while the second Strawhat began the process anew.
He probably should have expected the end result, really. Somehow, though, when Luffy, up on the figurehead, whooped loudly, he couldn't help the stomach-dropping feeling of dread.
Which was nothing compared to what his guts did when Luffy announced, at top volume, for the world (and the ship) at large to hear, "Hey, Zoro! Sanji wanted to let you know he loves you!"
Sanji cringed at the sound of the gunwale splintering under Zoro's suddenly-dropped weights. This was, absolutely, the last, LAST time he played a game of Broken Den Den Mushi with this crew, accidental or otherwise.
