She had asked once, way back before they even shared a ship, how long they’d known each other. It was evening, the two tiny crafts bobbing at anchor with no land in sight. About a month had been Zoro’s reply, Luffy’s hand gesturing in vague agreement. They’d been slumped against the boat's side, Luffy liberally using the swordsman as a pillow. She’d already learned to expect such physical affection from the captain. But to see it from Zoro, well, that’s why she had asked. It seemed like a short time for them to have formed a bond, but it was there. And it only grew stronger with time.

Oh they fought. After all, no one was immune from Luffy when he was bored. Or when he decided to be dumb as a brick. Zoro had his own moments, caused his bull-headed share of troubles. But nearly every day found the two of them napping on the deck, curled around each other like overgrown puppies. And when it counted most, their unstinting trust and uncanny ability to read each other had saved the crew more than once.

By now she didn’t even raise an eyebrow when she stumbled across them, Luffy gnawing on Zoro’s neck or Zoro burying his face in Luffy’s hair. It was just another part of them, evolving as they did. In the end, Luffy-and-Zoro had become one of the touchstones of life on the Going Merry. The pair of them being any other way would have been as strange as Usopp ceasing to tell stories or Sanji not catering to her every whim. And when sailing on an ocean as unpredictable as the Grand Line, that sort of constancy was a treasure in and of itself.
