Set after Drum Island. I'm not sure if this was meant to be a somewhat heartwarming gen or simply a perverted slash drabble... >>;; In any case, please enjoy~
In the dead of the night, there sounded the quick patter of footsteps, followed by a swish of cloth and a thud.
Usopp cautiously cracked open an eye, curiosity having won against fear and the need to appear asleep.
All seemed still in the men’s room, though perhaps a little quiet – only one person snoring? In the dim light, he could make out the outlines of three empty hammocks. Where was everyone? Usopp’s eyes flicked to the other occupied hammock – the blanket wrapped around the abnormally large mass was quivering.
Usopp paused, then asked the shivering blanket in a loud whisper, “Chopper? Is that you?”
The blanket wiggled in response. It took a few seconds before the cloth was pushed away and Usopp found himself staring at a tearing Chopper sitting on a soundly sleeping Luffy.
“There are monsters on the deck,” Chopper sniffed.
Usopp shuddered. “What makes you say that?”
“I went to get some milk from the kitchen, but heard scary noises,” Chopper’s voice rose into a high squeak. “Like something clawing its way out and there was scuffling and someone screamed!”
Images of sea kings with gigantic claws tearing through the Merry flashed through Usopp’s mind.
“Maybe it was the wind,” Usopp told Chopper, trying to keep the tremble out of his own voice; no, it wouldn’t do to further frighten their newest and youngest member.
“It didn’t sound like the wind…” Chopper said hesitantly, hastily tumbling out of the hammock he was in as Luffy tried to gnaw on the reindeer while mumbling something about meat.
“It’s the Grand Line after all. Maybe the winds sound different out here.”
“Maybe…”
“We can ask Zoro if he saw anything when he returns from his watch.”
“Yea… Um, Usopp?”
“Hm?”
“Are you sure it isn’t a giant sea monster?”
“I’m certain. Now, go back to sleep.”
Usopp watched as Chopper climbed into his own hammock, quite glad of his ability to lie.
