A/N: I had two ideas this week, but I thought it would be okay if I posted both because...why not. So this is the first one.
Jyabura had only left the break room for twenty seconds, and when he did he was the only one there. When he came back, he was still the only one there, but—and he was not just being paranoid—his coffee cup had been moved to the other side of the table. There was a stray hair sitting beside it, and Jyabura could have held it up to the light and looked at it, but he already knew the damn thing was orange.
It was like the bastard was just trying to piss him off.
And then a few days later, he’d been reading a mission report and gotten up to get a drink, and when he got back—here it’s important to stress that there was no breeze in the room—it was flipped to the next page. He could have just shifted to wolf form and sniffed out the culprit, but he already knew that whoever had done it smelled like steel polish and prey animal.
It was like he was trying to make him wonder.
Then later he’d gone back to his garden to find that his jug of sake—which he had pointedly left propped against a rock—was now leaning against a tree instead. There was a footprint in the grass near the door, and he could have gone around checking everyone’s soles, but he already knew that it belonged to the kind of track shoe best used for getting a good running start to jump off a twelve-story building.
It was like he was trying to tell him something.
(Kaku, meanwhile, enjoyed Jyabura’s slow descent into madness while idly wondering how long it would take him to complete the process of elimination that would lead to him figuring out what was really going on.)
