A/N: Hi, I'm new and It's been a while since I wrote anything so forgive me for this.

Zoro's pained and angered shouts echoed across the deck of the Thousand Sunny. Sanji flinched, crushing the cigarette he'd been smoking between his teeth. Every time he heard Zoro cursing or Choppers mumbled instructions (more pressing than Luffy's laughter and Ussop's whimpering, though perhaps not as disturbing) he'd step towards the galley door only to have Nami stop him with a shake of her head. Why wouldn't they let him in, damnit, this was his responsibility, he should be in there.
He started pacing again, lost in the memories of Chopper telling him there was nothing he could do and Zoro ordering him out when he'd tried to help. He struggled not to think of all the terrible, unnatural, things that could be happening behind that door.
Then suddenly the racket stopped and there was silence, somehow far worse then the commotion that had preceded it. The girls must have agreed, Robin even put down her book, because neither tried to stop him when he approached the galley.
Chopper stepped out and looked up at Sanji with a big watery smile. "It's done," he said before grabbing Sanji by the legs and hugging him.
Before he knew it everyone was there. Luffy was laughing, Ussop was telling anyone who'd listen of his heroic involvement (even if he did look a little queasy), and Brook had started playing some suitably celebratory music. Sanji ignored them all, staring instead at a sweaty and tired Zoro and, more importantly, what he was holding.
"Congratulations, bro," Franky laughed, slapping him on the back heartily. "It's a cake!"
There followed a chorus of happy birthdays from the crew, and a rather enthusiastic "Yay cake!" from Luffy, but Sanji couldn't stop looking at his present. The uneven, lopsided, childlike, and somewhat lumpy cake. It was perfect.

Date: 2008-02-04 08:10 pm (UTC)I'm glad I fooled you, if that makes sense?
I have a vision of a kitchen (and possibly Luffy) coated in a thin layer of cake batter and flour... Poor, poor, Sanji.

Date: 2008-02-04 08:14 pm (UTC)And I agree with you about Sanji. I imagine the kitchen will be a lost cause after this, perhaps Franky will build him a new one for his birthday?

Date: 2008-02-04 08:52 pm (UTC)Well Luffy being let loose in a kitchen would probably be enough to scar anybody for life.
