A/N: This is a slight AU, just because I couldn't resist the thought of putting Lucci and Kaku in the same Academy class, even though they most likely weren't.

"Ow!"

The teacher, running through a complex strategy problem, paused and glared at him, and 12-year-old Kaku flushed as he turned his attention back to the blackboard.

The next time he felt the tug on his hair, he didn't cry out, just waited until the teacher's attention was elsewhere and he could (relatively) safely turn and meet the cold, dark eyes of black-haired boy behind him. That gaze would have made a normal kid cringe and look away, but Kaku was used to this, so he just glared back at Lucci, making his annoyance clear, before turning back to his work.

As soon as class ended, the teacher called Kaku aside, and when he finally got outside, Lucci was waiting for him in the hall.

"What was that all about?" Kaku demanded, annoyed all over again. "Why were you trying to get me into trouble?"

"Your reprimand was collateral damage," Lucci said quietly, an odd expression on his face that Kaku couldn't read. "I was trying to..." He paused, clearly stuck on whatever concept he was trying to express and Kaku wondered what the other boy could have come across that even he had trouble understanding. "I'm told that when you feel affection for someone, you're supposed to annoy them. Pull their hair in class, that kind of thing. But it seems that's ineffective..."

Kaku stared at him. Affection? From Lucci?

"So I'll try another method," Lucci continued, grabbing Kaku suddenly by the front of his shirt, and the blond didn't have time to wonder what was going on before Lucci kissed him and then released him, looking at him curiously.

"Oh," was all Kaku said as things suddenly became clear. And without another word, he kissed Lucci back.

Lucci didn't pull Kaku's hair in class again.
