Something about the way Rob Lucci stood just before attacking his terrified victims--tall and lean and as though he could murder with his eyes--made Kaku shiver in silent appreciation of the older man's scare tactics. He knew how Lucci enjoyed playing with his food, so to speak--perhaps moreso than actually killing--and therefore, as the only individual who seemed to notice this particular activity, Kaku made it a point to dispose of any threats and, in turn, buy Lucci plenty of time to enact his tormenting.

This hardly went unnoticed, and on more than one occasion Lucci turned his calculating stare on Kaku, who shrugged innocently and pretended as though he were doing nothing at all to help. Although he knew he was playing with fire, and that Lucci might turn on him at any moment for thinking him weak enough to warrant assistance (no matter how trivial), Kaku continued to pick off the snipers and spies while allowing Lucci his precious moments of making marked men squirm.

Lucci never spoke of the way Kaku ensured his satisfaction with the missions, but the gesture was repaid in kind by well-placed glances and half-moments of a guard let down, a glimpse at something more... and, over time, even a strange sense of fondness for the young man who so strove to please. Admitting such a change was unnecessary; acting on a whim drove by passionate instinct and desire was far more inevitable. Happiness was disparate between the two, but in some way, with each shared mission, they both found fulfillment through each other.
