“Take me… Take me instead of him. I’m begging you…” the blonde man kept insisting, while gripping Death’s arm firmly.

“Why? Give me a reason why I have to accede to your wish, human. I saw how you interact with that swordsman. It’s not like you were nice to him…”

“What if I said I want to meet all of the beautiful angels in heaven. Would you believe me?”

Death remained silent, staring coldly at the young man in front of him, knowing that that wasn’t the true reason. He insisted that if this human wanted to make a deal, he’d have to at least give Death a good answer.

The blonde man sighed, and calmly lit a cigarette and took a deep drag from it.

“Well, I guess that wasn’t a good answer, huh? Hn… what the heck. The reason I want to trade my life for that bastard’s is because for the last couple of years, since I joined my captain’s crew, I felt like my reason for living was for that shitty-swordsman only. He keeps bugging me until I can’t think about anything else except him. No matter how much attention I lavish on the ladies, he keeps coming across in my life…” Those deep blue eyes were reflecting the truth to Death.

“… But he doesn’t know, does he?”

“What, how I feel? Yeah, he doesn’t know. He’s mostly a muscle head, anyway… and I don’t want him to know. A gentleman like me shouldn’t bitch about something like that… So, do we have a deal?”

Death only nodded.

“… Oh, and two more things. When it’s his time to get picked up by you, make sure to tell the Marimo which way heaven is, so he won’t get lost and end up in hell. And tell him about this deal, too. I want him to think about me in death the way I can’t stop thinking about him in life… Okay, now do your job, shitty-Death God…”

After that, Death only nodded once more before sucking the life from the young blonde man.
