Rear Admiral Smoker slams the door to his temporary quarters behind him and stalks across the room. He yanks the chair out from under the Marine-issue desk and drops into it, closing his eyes and resting his head against the seat-back. It’s late—past midnight—and he’s in a bad mood. He’s always in a bad mood when he’s stuck at HQ for his biannual reckoning, and where once there was Aokiji there’s now Garp, which only compounds the torture.

Garp doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder, he’s got a damned mountain. Smoker doesn’t know what the hell the man wants from him. It’s months since Garp’s elder grandson somehow blew up a men’s toilet and half Impel Down to boot, but as yet no one’s heard from Fire Fist, something Garp apparently considers Smoker’s fault. Smoker almost wishes it was. At least then he’d know where the brat was, and could haul him back by the scruff of his ungrateful neck.

Pulling a pair of fresh cigars from his jacket, Smoker flicks his lighter, illuminating the shadowed room. And freezes.

There is someone on his bed, ankles and wrists affixed to the frame’s wood by thick black bands. Someone long, lean and naked. Someone with dark hair and eyes, and a freckled, unaccountably attractive face.

Smoker gets slowly to his feet and walks over to stand beside the bed. A piece of white paper lies against ridged abdominals. He cranes his neck to read the writing on it.

Hina think no instructions necessary.

Smoker looks from the note to Portgas, who’s grinning like a maniac. Portgas is obviously here of his own (and the witch's) accord and this has been a long...fucking...year.

If Smoker leaves a few bruises, Portgas has no-one to blame but his own damn self.
