TITLE: IN YOUR ARMS, MY NAKAMA

Once, Doctorine had asked him why he would want to leave Drum Kingdom and join the Mugiwara pirate crew, to live a hard life at sea, when he could continue to live in the beautiful Drum Castle.

At the time, Chopper answered that he was a man, and could make his own decisions, which only led to his mentor telling him that a crybaby like him shouldn’t claim to be a man.

The little reindeer asked himself the same question. Could he separate himself from the comfort and safety of living with Doctorine, who was kind enough to take him under her wing? Could he be man enough to join as a member of Luffy’s crew without endangering the crew and himself during their adventures?

He knew for sure that while searching for the answer, he would join. He would have to take this opportunity.

Right now, after the sea stone bullets have torn through his body, he can see that his choice to be one of Luffy’s nakama was the right thing for him after all.

“Chopper! Why did you protect me?! I’m your captain, it’s my job to protect you as my crew!” he could see that his captain, who he’d never seen cry, was now crying while holding the little doctor in his arms.

“...You’re a brave man, Chopper.” Luffy was still sobbing. There; that was admission that he was a man. But that wasn’t so important anymore. Not when Chopper could see the worried and helpless look of being unable to protect his nakama in his captain’s eyes. Suddenly, an odd feeling came from within Chopper’s heart.

He didn’t want to be egotistic and selfish by ignoring Luffy’s sadness, but he was grateful that he could make himself useful to Luffy by saving him.

Because, by joining this crew, Chopper had been introduced to the greatest pleasurable experience of his life, going on adventures with all the peoples that he can called them his friends.

So, smiling widely, he said effortlessly: “…Thank you… for… having me… as your nakama, Luffy… I love you… And your praise doesn’t… make me happy, bastard…” before he closed his eyes for the last time, still smiling, because he had the pleasure to die in his number one nakama’s arms.
