He could still feel the constant waves of pain traveling through his leg from his recent loss. The wooden leg that had been attached to what was left irritated him. He made a gruff sound as he looked over the addition and the way it functioned.
The ship that had picked him and the brat up had been more generous than expected. The crew was quick to take them onboard, ushering the child, Sanji, under a blanket and into a cabin while he had been taken to the infirmary.
That was five weeks ago.
“Hmm…looks manageable. How much?” Zeff asked gruffly as he continued looking at his leg. The ship’s doctor made a sound and shook his head.
“There’s no charge for this. It’s free.” The doctor replied as he looked over his work.
“Now there’s a joke. Nothing is ever free.” Zeff told the doctor.
“If I were you I would take whatever freedom comes your way. You’ve suffered a lot and life might not be too kind to you as it’s already proved to be. You and your son are more than lucky to still be here. That also includes the captain actually allowing you two to stay. I personally think it’s only because of that kid that you’re being allowed to stay.” The doctor replied reaching in his medical bag for something. Zeff glanced over at the new attachment who was lying on his stomach in the other room, head hanging over the book on the ground that the crew had given him to entertainment himself with.
Rubbing the tension out of his neck, he figured that if not correcting the crew of the fact that the kid was not his, than whom was he to complain of a free pass to a new ship in mind.
