Chopping wood, to Zoro, is an ultimate test for ones manliness. It was an area that up till now he had been the pinnacle in. No other mugiwara could make clean cuts like him, as fast or as many. He could fell trees easily and had. His swords weren’t meant for such a task but always came through much like himself.
He was the Man.
Luffy could punch trees down leaving them splintered and a good deal unusable. He was like a boy unable to control his focus. The damn cook could kick trees over, leaving them whole with roots exposed. Like a teenager who had the focus and strength but not the experience or refinement of skill.
Zoro was the man, the top in all things manly, until Franky joined that is.
When the opportunity to see his chopping skills came through…Zoro knew he had competition.
He had a handmade tool for the task for one thing and before Zoro could blink the trees around them had fallen. Had fallen perfectly chopped and into not the logs Zoro and the others had been aiming for but piles of beautifully smooth pieces of flat lumber boards ready to use. The wood itself seemed reborn as the elegant grain shone in the sunlight.
Zoro could only take in the sight in near swoon and think, “What a man.”
That was before he quickly adjusted himself and went on over to see Frankys’ technique first hand.
He was a man too after all, and equally skilled in some other activities that only men could do with wood. A certain lucky cyborg was about to find out just how much of a man the swordsman was.
