The scalpel was expertly sinking into flesh again, just like it always did…but with nothing to dull the pain Chopper couldn’t help but be tense. Zoro hissed as the tissue around the ragged wound was sliced away but didn’t flinch.
“I’m sorry!” The little reindeer blurted out as he pulled the medical thread from the bag. “This must hurt a lot!”
“Not your fault….I just need to be stronger.”
The wound was sewn shut and Zoro sighed in relief. The paw clenched his hand afterward, squeezing it in comfort.
“I told you I’m okay.”
It felt very much to Zoro that he was the one doing the comforting.
Chopper shook his head.
“Zoro…you have so many like this and the pain is going to get worse.”
“I’m okay…I can still go fight….” Zoros was suddenly hit with a wave of dizziness. His eyes shot to Chopper. The doctor for his part unconcealed the syringe and shrugged apologetically.
Zoro would hate him interfering with him getting back to the battle, but that was the nature of being a doctor. The patients health came first, wants be damned.
As Zoro passed out he felt the soft paw squeeze his hand again.
It was just a bonus he wouldn’t have to see the man he loved in pain anymore.
