Letters twisted and twirled across the sheet of parchment Smoker scanned:
Question For You~
I chase your shadow.
My heavy heart
Is sinking.
You're so far away;
I'm so far behind.
Will I ever catch up to you?
We stand on opposite sides.
I reach for you,
Grasping air.
You are law;
I'm a pirate.
Will you ever touch me kindly?
My fingertips meet yours.
For a moment,
You see me.
You are grown;
I am growing.
Will you move on without me?
Your arms encircle me,
Yet your touches
Are fleeting.
You are big;
I am small.
Are we really that different?
You taste my lips with your tongue.
You pull me closer,
Until we are one.
You are smoke;
I am fire.
Do you really love me?
A callused hand picked up the poem that lay on top of the still-warm indent on one side of his bed. A pair of hard gray eyes reread the words one more time. Smoker tucked the parchment into his coat pocket and made a mental note to tell the boy not to ask stupid questions the next time they met.
Of course I love you, brat.
