A Day-in-the-Life drabble

Hey! Haven't posted anything here in awhile. This is basically a Mugiwara day-in-the-life type drabble featuring, of course, the Great Captain Usopp. It's not quite pointless; but it's not too far off, either.

 

The cook lay sprawled flat on his back, singed fingers fumbling for smokes and a light in his right pants pocket.

Usopp shoved himself up onto his knees. His newest invention had worked better than he could have hoped, though he still needed to work on the actual detonation – needed to figure in a bit of a delay so that he and his nakama could escape. Close range weapons weren't really his specialty; they were more Sanji's style.

 

But! Judging by the number of Marines littering the ground, the Great Captain Usopp felt that he had demonstrated his superiority in this area of combat as –

 

"Oi, Usopp, what manner of crazy shit was that?" Sanji had managed to prop himself up in a sitting position, though he couldn't get his match to light. He'd broken three already and he could barely keep hold of the fourth.

 

"That was my Ultimate Chain Reaction Exploding Star String! No enemy can withstand the blast."

 

A low, throaty chuckle. "S'pretty rough on friends, too."

 

"Hmm, well there may still be a few details to..." When the next match dropped from fumbling fingers, Usopp leaned over and plucked the cigarette from Sanji's mouth, setting it between his own lips and then bending down to a smoldering clump of displaced earth, lighting it himself.

 

The Great Captain Usopp was nothing if not dashing.

 

He took the first drag and handed it back, swallowing a painful cough and feeling like the smoke came out his ears instead.

 

Sanji chuckled again and clapped him on the shoulder. Then they both winced. "Let's go, Hero. Gotta find our captain and that idiot marimo before they're both days off the map."
