Empty Smile
Sep. 1st, 2004 01:09 pmTitle: Empty Smile
Pairing: Sorta Sanji/Luffy, Luffy/Usopp, but mostly just nakama-ship
Rating: G
Words: 150
Notes: Spoilers for recent manga chapters, takes place about the same time as ch. 334, for the expertise topic.
Luffy was really good at being happy. Sanji was sure he’d never met anyone with the same optimism. It was contagious, unavoidable, just a glimpse of Luffy’s grin coaxed out your own whether you liked it or not.
And now? His captain was again unconsciously exerting his influence on the rest of the crew. But instead of laughter and cheek-stretching smiles, it was the melancholy, the silent sighs and breeze-ruffled hair hiding sunken eyes that spread from the boy to his remaining companions.
As the cook’s thoughts drifted to his now-empty kitchen and the man who must still be on the ship --the last bit of life still touching the Going Merry’s broken hull--, Sanji had a horrible hollow feeling that even the prospect of dinner wouldn’t bring a true smile to the face of the dark-eyed boy who sat away from the others, staring at the sky.
