Title: The Price of challenging the best a second time (or The indecent proposal OP style)
Pairing: Zoro/Sanji, Sanji/Mihawk
words:398
rating:pg 13
topic: Justice
The first time, if you’re skilled, the cost is low. A token of respect that you were willing to risk your life and give someone named the ‘greatest’ something new and potentially interesting to experience.
Zoro learned this first hand…the first time you challenge Mihawk you loose a chunk of pride, the price of the fight ending so quickly and being so utterly defeated.
Mihawk followed his own sense of justice. He didn’t put up with time wasters. If you challenged him again and lost there was a more costly price…your life or one of your treasured possessions.
So when Zoro cursed that second time in crushing defeat, sword pressed against his throat…he fully expected to die or be forced to give up one or all of his swords. He didn’t expect Mihawks eyes to flick to Sanji, who apparently had been sitting on a nearby rock grinding painfully on a cigarette, watching. Zoro idly wondered when he had shown up and how much of this dishonorable scene he had witnessed.
“A night with him and you walk away a second time.” The silky tone nearly whispered conspiratorially to him.
“What?! Sanji?” He glanced back to the chef who had since gotten up and was walking up to the two swordsman.
“I’ll do it.”
Zoro gaped as a cigarette landed by his ear and the cooks black shoe crushed it out.
“If you plan on this dream coming true anytime soon Marimo you’re going to need to be alive and armed, right? Besides how bad could it be?”
The sword was withdrawn and Zoro was ready to protest the shitty cooks interference if only he could find his voice beyond his frustration, when Mihawk roughly grabbed his blond prize and hefted him over his shoulder. Sanji cursed and squirmed under his captors large hands and the two were already disappearing into the woods.
Zoro made his way back to the ship filled with self loathing and worry.
It wasn’t ‘how bad it could be’ that worried Zoro. No Zoro was more concerned about the opposite. Sanji would come back right? Would he forgive him for being so weak? For letting him go so easily?
Shit…he needed to get stronger. Who knew what Mihawk would demand the next time Zoro challenged him and on the off chance he lost again. The price this time was already too high.

"You know," said Sanji thoughtfully, chopping up the onions to go with the rabbit, "this wasn't what I thought you had in mind."
"I haven't eaten a decent meal in months," Mihawk answered as if that was really the only explanation needed. There was something...interesting about his smile, though, as he looked out over the woods to the ocean and a ship containing a swordsman with an even greater drive than previously.
(Sorry.)

Date: 2008-09-23 04:01 am (UTC)MWA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAA!!!! I SHALL SPREAD THIS PAIRING ACROSS THE ONE PIECE YAOI COMMS LIKE A PLAGUE OF SEXINESS! Already with that simple request at the op_fanforall (seriously, you're just all over that thing, aren't you?), you have been tempted to post this drabble. Now gaze upon the comments bellow and witness what you have helped me achieve! A small victory, but a victory non-the-less!
Loved. this. Damnit! It's a shame it's just a drabble, it has such potential to be a chaptered fic. But I know you have thousands of fics on you, so I won't harrass you about it. This was enough win to last me a long while! KISSES! XD
I love this icon of yours...Sanji is too smooth...!
Date: 2008-09-23 08:01 am (UTC)Glad you liked it!
I wish I could carry this out multi-chapter like. I don't have much faith in writing mihawk though...
Re: O rly? Then DOUBLE POW!
Date: 2008-09-23 04:29 pm (UTC)Oh, if it helps ease your feelings of obligation (?), I write a few requests, too! I figure I should sense I've had pretty much ALL (as in only three) my requests filled. Only fair, right? Right!
Now good luck with that fic! *cheerleader mode*
