“This one…or this one?”
“Luffy, get out of there. The marines are coming!”
“But Na~mi,” the captain whined, the expression of indecision he wore warning the navigator of the difficulty ahead. “I gotta get Zoro a souvenir, an’ I don’t know which one.”
Nami sighed, irritation plain on her face as she crossed the threshold into the tacky little stand. Luffy stood there, a cheap plastic snow globe in one hand, a tin spoon and wacky looking t-shirt in the other.
“Why do you have to get him a souvenir? What’ll he do with it? Besides, this is all shoddy merchandise.”
The old woman behind the counter shot Nami a nasty look, but smiled when Luffy replied.
“He’s stayed on the ship the last eight times, eight! He missed out on all sorts a cool stuff. An’ who knows when we’ll ever come back here. I thought maybe he’d just like a reminder, too.”
As the noises on the street outside increased, Nami gave in.
“Fine, fine. But hurry it up,”
Luffy grinned as he spotted the perfect gift, tugging Nami over to pay the shopkeeper. Then he stepped outside, one sweep of Gum Gum Whip taking care of the first wave of marines. The two pelted down the streets towards the docks.
Later, after the Going Merry had long since sailed beyond sight of the island, Luffy deposited a rock in Zoro’s hand. Zoro studied it, noting that this rock had googly eyes pasted on and the words ‘I Visited Candalusia Island’ painted on the back. He eyed the captain, who just smiled.
“It’s a souvenir.”
“Ah.”
And amazingly enough, the rock disappeared into a haramaki and did not end up dropped off the side of the ship once the captain’s back was turned.
*Is it me, or does Zoro stay behind on the ship more than anyone else?*

Date: 2004-09-09 07:00 pm (UTC)--and yah, I think Zoro does, but that's likely 'cuz he volunteers. seeing as if he stays behind ship-watching then he can nap undisturbed by noisy crewmates ^^
