Summary: Luffy doesn't follow trends - he sets them. Unfortunately.



"I don't care what you say!" the little boy had shouted, furiously pointing his stubby finger at the bemused group of pirates. "Pirates suck! Everyone wants to be a pirate! All you do is sail around and attack people... and... and look for shiny things!"

Shanks had looked at Ben, and Ben had looked at Shanks, and everyone else had stared at Luffy. "Then you want to be a Marine, maybe?" Shanks had said hopefully, silently praying that the child didn't want to be an accountant.

Luffy looked down his nose at the man, although he had to clamber on to the bartop to manage it. "No," he announced. "I'm going to be a ninja."

There was a long silence, before Yassop raised his head and questioned, "What's a ninja? I've never seen one."

Luffy crossed his arms smugly. "Exactly."

A decade later, the Strawhat-Balaclava Ninja were world-famous, despite the fact that few people had ever seen anything more than their black-clad silhouettes or their darting shadows: their fights could be heard from several miles away after all, especially the domestic arguments between the mysterious Black Haramaki and Black Leg. Thus, the Pirate Era rapidly gave way to the Ninja Era.

No-one could agree whether this was better than the previous era, but it was certainly a lot stupider.

ASD;KFJA;S HAHAHA I now have images of "Black Haramaki" and "Black Leg" arguing in a forest, hidden behind some bushes while people walking by listen in awe. "It's really them!" they'd whisper with wide eyes.

This was great :) I could see Luffy as a trendsetter, oh yes. He's got the charisma.

btw always wanted to compliment and ask about your icon. Who is that cute person and why is it hanging upside down? It always reminds me of a squid in the sense of being see-through, light and so delicate. :)

A balaclava is an item of clothing that covers the whole face (and usually part of the neck) apart from the eyes (and sometimes mouth). It's the sort of thing you see worn on TV when robbers hold up a bank or something. They're also used by special forces, terrorists on the news who don't want to be identified, etc.

As for my icon - I can't exactly recall. It's not anyone in particular, but it's actually a close-up of part of another icon, where the girl is standing by the edge of a pool. My icon is a close-up of her reflection in the pool, which makes it look like she's upside down.

Ahhh, thankies for the explanation. Now it makes much more sense. (although food would have been somewhat logical too, we are dealing with Luffy after all! XD ) I think the food I was thinking off is called - Baklava.

I think Luffy would make the worst ninja ever. He'd run in screaming, eat all their food and then just pass out in the middle of the battlefield. Og course, no one would realize that was a diversion until the rest of 'em swooped in and it was too late.
