This really wasn't what Helmeppo had expected when the swordsman had said, "Come with me." Actually this wasn't anything like what he'd expected. He'd always thought a bounty hunter's life would be one of exciting chases (in which he'd always be that one crucial step behind or ahead of Roronoa, depending on which side was doing the chasing), thrilling battles (which he'd observe from a safe distance), and untold riches showered on them by a grateful populace (which they'd share half-and-half, both the money and the fame, because he was Roronoa Zoro's partner, and they shared everything, right?).
Whereas, as it turned out, the pirate hunter's life was, in fact, more one of wandering aimlessly around port-towns hoping to run into wanted pirates (boring, sweaty and, most of the time, fruitless), fending off pirate attacks on passenger ships (which Helmeppo spent most of running around the deck, screaming, so that Roronoa had to start teaching him to defend himself just to save his own ears and concentration, making them both even more sweaty), being taken hostage (which happened with rapidly decreasing frequency due to said lessons, but still often enough that Helmeppo had learned to savour the flicker of fear that showed through Roronoa's rage each time as he cut the enemy down), and being broke (meaning that at the end of a long sweaty day of wandering, fighting, or sparring, they always ended up sharing a single small bed).
All in all, Helmeppo had decided, the life of a bounty hunter really wasn't all that bad.
