Sep. 29th, 2004 01:49 pmHello, everyone. I am new to this community, although you may know me from
onepieceyaoi. I recently was pondering to myself about how the OP community doesn't know I can write, and I have been so inspired by everyone's absolutely amazing work that I thought I would try to contribute. So here it is, my own, albeit unusually angsty addition to this week's topic, which I hope will be submitted early enough to be considered for this week. If not, just enjoy. ^_^
BTW, I have not yet actually read the most recent chapters, so if this is impossible in the canon timeline, then it's AU. *shrugs* The idea just came to me and wouldn't leave me alone. Also, there is a lot of undercurrent of unwritten stuff in this drabble because otherwise it would be too long, and obviously the convo is a kind of metaphor, so...yeah...I'll shut up now.
Title: You Can't Have Both
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 373 (Sorry, went a little over...edited and edited, but couldn't cut any more.)
Subject: CandyboySanji
Pairing: UsoSan
He had been sucking on these things for almost a week.
He knew how Usopp hated the way he tasted. The way he smelled. The sharpshooter had never said as much, but Sanji knew.
They were fighting, the long-nose and Luffy. It hurt the cook, pried open his flesh and shook his bones. It was wrong. Fundamentally wrong.
And there was that fear. It twisted his insides at night, ate at him, gnawed on him. Even the sound of the water lapping at the boat could not calm the lanky blonde. Even the thought of his home, his ocean, could not give him peace and close his eyes.
That guy couldn’t leave….
Could he?
So he had been sucking on these things, these sticks of candy. Hadn’t touched a cig in god knows how long. He’d never been very confident of his own self-worth in the world, but just maybe, this time, he would be enough. Could he be enough for anybody?
He flipped the peppermint around on his tongue and left his kitchen, noticing Luffy on the figurehead, gazing into the seas. The cook went around to the back of the ship.
The wind cut into him. He shuddered. It was so cold.
His companion was there at the back rail, also staring at the rippling blue-grey, shoulders tense and fingers gripping the painted wood.
“Oi.”
“What?” The tone was flat.
“Come here. Kiss me.”
“No.”
Sanji approached him, turned him around, pressed their lips gently together, slipped his tongue into the lax mouth. There was no protest, no participation. Just presence, and barely that. He drew away then, saddened but vainly hopeful.
“You haven’t been smoking. You taste like peppermint.”
“You always hated the way I taste.”
“Yeah…”
“So?”
“But now you don’t taste like you.”
Silence. Everything was grey.
“But…you really hated it.”
“I did.”
“W…well… You can’t have both…”
“…I know.” As he remained completely stone-faced, a tear ran down the sharpshooter’s face, getting blown slightly to the left by the wind.
Before Sanji knew it, he was gone, with their ship, somewhere too far away.
The wind cut into him, the stones under his feet cut into him wherever he walked.
He shuddered.
It was so, so cold.
Comment please. <3
