Whew! Finally had some time to sit down and write now that I'm home.

Title: One Instant

Word Count: 255
Characters: Straw Hats
Topic: One

He never gave it a second thought. Nor a third or fourth.

Never doubted it.

Didn’t imagine that it would ever happen.

But it did. And it happened in the blink of an eye; before anyone knew what was happening.

He had more than one chance in order to gain each of his nakama; to gain their trust and approval, giving them a home where they could maybe find where they belonged. They were individuals, but they were one.

Although, for what it was worth, Luffy never knew he how fast or easily he could lose one. No one had seen it coming, especially not Sanji when his head was turned away from the weapon flying towards him. In this moment a sword was too slow, a punch not swift enough, an extra arm just out of reach.

It didn’t make that much of a mess. It was clean and it took only one.

One.

One hit did it.

Luffy didn’t fully believe it. Not at first. It took more than a minute to sink in; more than the first hundreds of shouts from the others to finally snap him out of his daze. His bare feet treaded over the wet floor marking the floorboards with dark footprints, each perfectly outlined around the enemy bodies.

Luffy believed now though as he stared down at the still, slumped figure of his cook, harpooned to the wall of the Sunny; struck down with one shot.

In the end they were still one, but now one was gone.

I like this, especially the last line. (Although you might want to edit your author’s note)

;___;

So tense, and emotional, and I really need to read something happy now. I liked it a lot, though.

Also, this line was my favourite: His bare feet treaded over the wet floor marking the floorboards with dark footprints, each perfectly outlined around the enemy bodies.
