Beware, here be fluff!
I'll probably regret this in the morning, but any idea stubborn enough to force me out of bed at 1 AM probably won't let me sleep until it's posted. (No edited-by-awake-person for you, you evil thing.)

Sanji's thoughts were drifting, body kept awake by the cold, but lulled into comfortable relaxation by the earlier celebration in their newest crewmate's honor.
He looked over at the small reindeer, now fallen blissfully into exhausted sleep, tucked under the duck's wing. Sanji remembered his tears as he'd torn off into the night, leaving his Doctorine and his home.
Just like Sanji himself had, that day that had ended a life that was so distant it felt like a dream. Sometimes a dream he'd just woken up from, but still a dream, in contrast to this vivid reality.
They'd all had such partings. He thought of Nami's beautiful sister, of her beloved village. Of Vivi, longing for her country its people with her every breath. He'd heard enough stories about the lovely Kaya to believe she might be less a figment of Usopp's imagination than his 80 000 men.
And there was Luffy. Their captain, who had said that he could not live alone, and who had only today and the future in mind. Today and in the future, he had those he needed with him - or he was going to find them. That pirate, Shanks, was as much a part of Luffy's future as One Piece. Luffy knew goodbyes.
Which left only one. Sanji propped himself up on his elbow, just enough that he could see a green head over Usopp's shoulder. Pirate hunter Zoro, feared swordsman of the East Blue. Now snoring softly with Luffy tucked against his chest, the captain's tousled black hair under his chin, surrounded by the nakama he protected with his life.
Whatever life he'd led before, Sanji could not imagine him leaving it with pain in his heart. Zoro could not have known separation, because he'd only just found where he belonged.
