For the lack of seeing anything else...
Nov. 3rd, 2004 07:11 amI'll post my crap. o_O;;
I was in the mood to write something serious- being in a somewhat nostalgic mood, but it didn't come out the way I wanted. Ah well, have at it.
Title: Quiet times
Pairing: Er... none... sorry?
Word count: 302
Rating: PG
Notes: Done way too fast and only gone over once- please excuse mistakes, I’ll fix ‘em when I get home if there are any…
He was always up first, he had to be; but sometimes he got up earlier than strictly necessary.
When the waves lapped lazily against the Merry's sides and morning had yet to break free of night’s languid embrace... that was his favorite time. At least, when he wanted quite this was best. Peace was nowhere to be found when his shipmates were awake. Frequently not when they were asleep either, but on deck he could only faintly hear their nocturnal behavior.
That was what drew him from his otherwise comfortable slumber night after night, and yet somehow, for all his want of solitude, he couldn't help reflecting on the day's normal bustle.
Luffy somehow seemed to be everywhere, usually making a nuisance of himself. Ussop would get talked into whatever havoc he planned- and it would almost always end in the kitchen; not that he would trade them for anything. Nami-san would [rightly] chastise them as children, with a relaxed air- still pouring over her wondrous maps. Even that damned swordsman. Somehow all the noise, even their constant fighting- it reminded him of the Baratie. Made him feel... comfortable. Somehow whole.
In the near silence he watched the dark rolling waves, shifting his cigarette idly.
All blue was out there somewhere. There had been times in the past, rare as they were, that he doubted his ability to find it, but he knew in his heart, with them he could. He'd find it some day, and show that shitty old man their dream was real.
He flicked away the last burning embers. It was time to start; the last thing he needed was a hungry captain hanging on him while he tried to cook. Though it was possible the thought occurred, just for a minute, that he might let him stay today.
