onepieceyaoi100Okay so yeah, I've been sitting at the computer for the better part of the day trying to think of something, anything to write, and as usual, fell to this week's topic as my sort of self-imposed "DO SOMETHING YOU IDIOT" deadline. I'm less than happy with the results, but maybe if I get enough criticism it'll rouse my pride (or something) and I'll get the energy to try and be better. ^_^;; Or I could just not, knowing how lazy I am, but I figured it was worth at try. Here goes...
Drabble: Moment
Topic: Night
Rating: PG for naughty language
Word Count: 525 (I’m a windbag…sowwy!)
Pairing: Um, ZoSan but in the boring way.
A/N: Once again, forcing myself to write. I have no idea where this is going to go. Be forewarned! And yeah, it probably won’t have anything to do with the topic afterwards, but I really needed to resuscitate my muse.
They didn’t have a lot of what some would call “moments”. It just didn’t happen with them, and truth be told, the whole idea made him a little bit sick in his stomach when he thought about it, what a “moment” with that idiot might entail, what sort of things would be expected of him back, what words and gestures and emotions might come pouring out if he let himself get carried away.
Zoro had his living-in-the-moment lifestyle, but it was Sanji’s curse to be the one of them stuck thinking about things.
It was easy enough to forget about these sorts of things during the day, when he was too busy to care and Zoro was being too stupid to make him want to care, but at night things were different.
Nighttime was quiet on the Going Merry. Zoro was fast asleep, snoring like a cannonball attack to Sanji’s left and with that keeping him up he had nothing left to do but think a whole lot.
Like about how Zoro’d saved his ass earlier today because he’d been careless. That in itself chafed Sanji badly enough, but the added fact was that for a moment, he’d seen the idiot marimo’s face unguarded, flooded with some sort of inexplicable emotion thinly mixed with his usual anger.
“Don’t DO that you stupid fucker!”
Sanji’d been so surprised by his expression he hadn’t even thought to snap back at him.
Perhaps sensing a sort of shift in the carefully maintained balance they’d developed, Zoro’d tried making up for it with overcompensation later.
Every other word had been “damn love cook, stupid shithead pretty boy, and goddamn fucking fucker” in typical Zoro-esque eloquence, though perhaps more forced after he’d let himself slip up so badly earlier.
Sanji hadn’t had the heart to be pissed at him for the insults though.
That face had been too much.
It had made him feel…
…weird. Sort of even apologetic. Strangely happy and at the same time, scared enough to make him want to throw up. A mixed bag of something that he didn’t really want to touch but couldn’t help but ponder when it was nighttime and there was nothing else to do.
Uncomfortable, he shifted in the hammock, brow furrowed thoughtfully while he tried to figure out what all of this meant.
Maybe he could admit a little bit…to himself at least, alone in the dark like this…that…
Zoro snorted in his sleep suddenly, like he’d taken an ill-timed breath and choked a little on his own air.
Sanji tensed but said nothing.
The swordsman rolled over after a moment and cracked an eye. It roamed over Sanji disinterestedly before snapping shut again. Zoro grunted crossly, cleared some phlegm from his throat and turned back around. “Whatever it is, stop it.”
Sanji scowled. “I wasn’t doing anything.”
“It’s the middle of the fucking night. Stop thinking about whatever shit you’re thinking about and go to sleep. You’re keeping me up.”
“Fucker,” the blonde sneered though he settled down anyway. He supposed he should be glad the idiot stopped him when he did.
Otherwise, he might have had a moment.
