Notes: yes, this is a wierd pairing. dunno why I like it. this story was much longer and I think I might have killed it by trimming it down so much. I also terrorize commas. and I desribe the conditions more than I should, but I needed for Kaku to need help, and I wasn't sure how to do that with someone as trained and super-human as he is. kinda nervous about this one, its not really as good as I like my writing to be

 

It was a smolderingly hot day out. It was one of those days that was so hot that he hadn’t wanted to get out of bed, and so humid that he wasn’t sure if his long ago abandoned shirt was soaked with sweat or just wet with humidity. And now after fours of working in the sun, he was stuck in this stuffy cabin, on his back, holding an 8 foot long low hardwood table over his head, and attempting to nail the supports to the table’s underside at the same time.

Suffice it to say, it was enough to try the endurance of even one of CP9’s super-humans. But that was part of why Kaku loved this mission as much as he did, he was physically pushed in ways that he hadn’t been in years.

            “PAULLIIEE” he called out, hoping for some help.

            “Yeah?” the blonde came in and quickly seeing what he was needed for, he slid under the table squeezing in next to the thinner man. With the rigging foreman holding most of the weight off of him, he realized that it hadn’t been wise to call for Paulie, he was a distraction. Taking a deep breath he quickly finished the nailing and they both rolled out from under the table.

Kaku’s breath caught when a pair of strong arms wrapped around his middle, shivering despite the heat. He tried to turn around to look at the blonde, but a mirror caught his attention. For a moment it was all he could do to stand there and look at their reflection.

This was the other thing he loved about his job, Paulie, and in a world where he had to be cold and ruthless, to have someone to hold him. Even just for now.

I like any fic involving Kaku and/or Paulie, so you had me at hello. Er, or rather, you had me at the pairing :P

It hurst to trim stories down ;_; This one doesn't seem to have suffered, though: it reads well, emotions get put across succintly, and yum, Paulie in tight spaces ^___^ Kaku's greater-than-human strength does make it hard to imagine him asking for help, but in this instance, since he's undercover, he can't SHOW his strength too much, and might require assistance within those parameters, so it works. And awww, last sentence...

Awww, lovely pairing, love the idea of Kaku having the ability to be affectionate and a bit of a softie when he wants to be.
